Payne - Amelia

On Thursday morning Mrs. Payne, who has been staying with her son Lon on Doc Sullivan's place, northwest of town, committed suicide by cutting her throat. She has been in poor health ever since coming here from her home at Summershade, Ky and had two or three times spoken of taking her life. It is supposed that her mind was slightly unbalanced. About half past six she got up and dressed herself, but went out of the rear door without any breakfast. Her daughter, Lulu missed her and went to look for her, when she found the body lying in a small creek that runs back of the house, with the throat cut from ear to ear, severing both jugulars and the windpipe. Near her was the razor with which the deed was done. The body was taken to Summershade, Ky for burial yesterday evening. She leaves a husband, two sons and a daughter. She was very much attached to the little son of Lon Payne, and it is thought that worry for fear she would not be allowed to take him with her on her return to KY had much to do with her unfortunate mental condition. --kbz
